FilNet
is an organization
of Filipino-Canadians in British Columbia,
Canada who are in the Information Technology (IT) profession or
those who are interested in this field.
History
Late in 1994, Manny, a senior technical instructor for
a major software company in Canada at that time, came up with the idea
of organizing a group of Filipino-Canadians who are in information
technology profession. A meeting was held at the residence of Vic.
He has been a long term computer programmer for
a major hydro company. A plan was put in place to formally establish the group.
This plan, however, was temporarily postponed when Manny was
injured in a car accident in the spring of 1995. He suffered a broken
neck which incapacitated him for a year.
Manny resurrected the original plan and invited a volunteer group for
a get together which was again held at the residence of Vic early in 1999. The first meetings held were to establish the
group's code of ethics. The first meeting not intended for
organizational purposes was held in March 1999 and featured
"Careers in IT" as the subject of discussion.
